Irving Penn & Nadja Auermann Photo.
Irving Penn was born June 16, 1917 in Plainfield, New Jersey. He initially intended to become a painter, but a job with Vogue magazine in the 1940s turned his focus to photography. Penn was a commercial photographer. His portraits of models and celebrities were shot against bare backdrops with natural light. He's most famous for his self portraits. One of his most famous works is his portrait of Nadja Auermann who is a famous model for Versace. In his black and white portrait of Nadja Auermann, Irving Penn used a plain background along with natural lights. Her face is painted with a black thick stripe across her eyes to about the middle of her nose. Her hair is also pulled back. Her expression looks as though she is screaming in agony. In the photograph, her face is in focus while the rest of her body is out of focus. To recreate this picture , I painted my model's face the way that Auermann's face is painted. I used a bare background as well. I want to emulate this photo as best as possible, so I made sure that the model's expression is as close to Nadja Auermann's as possible. The model's hair is pulled back and the camera has a low aperture to get some of the picture in focus and some of it blurred.
